Although Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is undoubtedly Google’s strongest mobile OS iteration to date, the length of time it has taken to trickle out to the many hundreds of Android devices
has shrouded the release. With quite a few improvements plus a
beautiful visual makeover, it was supposed to bridge the gap between tablet and smartphone, but with the majority of devices still awaiting that elusive OTA update, the release – if not the OS itself – has to go down as a fail.
Nonetheless, despite the long wait, there are plenty of ways to enjoy
elements of ICS on your unsupported Android device. Custom launchers
are one of the great features of owning an Android, and enable the home screen to be changed not only visually, but function in a whole new way, giving Google’s mobile operating system a distinct advantage over main rival iOS.
If you happen to be one of those unfortunate folk still waiting on a whim for an ICS over-the-air update, and are perhaps feeling somewhat disheartened, don’t fret, for the Holo Launcher has you covered. If you’re sick of the sight of Gingerbread, or even worse, an earlier version of Android, then you don’t have to wait for your vendor to break promises and push back the ICS release – that is, of course, if your device even has scheduled ICS support – for Holo Launcher offers the stock Ice Cream Sandwich launcher’s features absolutely free of charge!
It looks identical for ICS, and supports Android 2.2 or higher, so
even if you’re stuck on the ghastly Froyo, you can achieve a slicker,

nice inventory of features and customization options, including
long-press to edit folder and shortcuts, scrollable dock, and multi-touch gestures, among others.
It’s only just clambered out of beta, so may be a little rough in
places, but on the whole, is a great solution for those languishing on
older firmware.
