Angry Birds Seasons Updated

There are some things in life that truly are dependable. Christmas Day is December 25, day turns into night, and Rovio will keep giving us new Angry Birds levels. In the case of the latter, today we get yet more new levels, 30 to be exact, to the Angry Birds Seasons extravaganza. However, this time, things are a little bit different.

Piglantis, as the new levels are known, brings underwater action to the Angry Birds for the first time. As with Angry Birds Space, there is a whole new set of game physics to go along with the new territory -- hint, pigs don't float. No longer is it OK just to fire and be happy, you now need to work out how the birds will 'fly' while under the water. Nice. It's actually quite challenging in places, and a welcome departure from the regular gameplay.

The update is live in the Google Play Store now, so head on over, grab some goggles, and away you go. Download is here

The update to HTC’s OpenSense SDK is now available for download

One of the ingredients in the Android Fragmentation soup is the extra UIs that companies like Samsung and HTC add on top of the standard Android interface. These extras help differentiate one company’s phone over another. The problem is that for app developers to make use of these extras they need access to a software development kit which exposes the relevant APIs.

HTC’s SDK is called the “OpenSense SDK” and according to the phone maker, it “enables deeper integration into the HTC Sense experience.” To do this in the HTC OpenSense SDK, which is available as an Android SDK add-on through the Android SDK manager, provides access to the HTC APIs from within the standard Android SDK platform.

A little while ago, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, HTC announced that it would update its SDK with more features. With the new SDK, app developers are able to integrate access to their apps from the HTC lock screen, or add dual screen capabilities using Wireless HDMI. There is also support for HTC’s Sound Enhancer and new Common Controls.

HTC are claiming that the new SDK allows developers to differentiate their apps on HTC hardware, without fragmentation. The “without fragmentation” is emphasized by HTC as the SDK gives the app an easy way to detect if HTC Sense is present and then act accordingly (like offering lock screen integration etc).

The updated HTC OpenSense SDK can be downloaded from here.

CyanogenMod9 with Working Camera for Samsung Galaxy Ace!

All Galaxy Ace owners are waiting for CM9 this friday because the developers that working on it will release CM9 rom with a working camera including preview feature. The development of this project actually started a long time ago but the camera bugs make the rom feel not complete to make it as a daily use rom. For now it still on a beta stage until all the bugs gone and rom stable enough to go out of beta.

This rom will open the eyes of Samsung because they told the world that low end devices like Galaxy Ace can't be update to Ice Cream Sandwich cause by the hardware. The great developers of Samsung Galaxy Ace make the statement of the Samsung go wrong and at the same time make the Galaxy Ace community happy and enjoy their phone to the limit.

For more info you can go to the forum of the CM9 development here.

First OTA updates for Galaxy S3 now rolling out

Just days after releasing the Galaxy S3 in Europe and parts of Asia, and before getting it out in the US, Samsung has already issued not one, but two OTA (over-the-air) updates for their new flagship phone.

The first of the two upgrades weighs in at 31.17 MB, according to a SlashGear report, but only 9 MB, according to the guys at Phone Arena, and its changelog only mentions “improved stability” as software tweaks and/or improvements.

To get the update, you only have to access the Android settings menu in your Galaxy S3, tap “About Device” and then “Software Update”. A message will pop up if you perform a manual check, and the new software package should be up and running in a matter of minutes, depending on your network connection speed.

After downloading the first update, you should get another prompt message for a second OTA upgrade weighing in at another 15.57 MB (or less, depending on your phone’s initial configuration). This second OS update comes with the same “thorough” changelog mentioning just “improved stability” at details about the new software package.

The S3 updates might depend on your location and exact S3 model number, so if you’re unable to download and install any of the two firmware upgrades, don’t worry too much and give it some time. Also, if we are to trust Ben Kersey from SlashGear, who has installed both updates and has played around with Samsung’s new flagship phone for a while, there aren’t any “radical” software changes or improvements to report. Then again, that shouldn’t come as a surprise, considering the fact that we haven’t yet seen anything wrong with the Galaxy S3’s OS.

The LG Optimus S gets one of the coolest custom recoveries around with Cannibal Open Touch

Cannibal Open Touch Cannibal Open Touch

LG's original Optimus One series of devices turned out to be one of last year's surprises. It ran as well as the big dogs when it first came out, and as long as you were comfortable hacking the living crap out of it you have a little Android phone that did everything. It's the perfect mix of price and performance for more than a few. When a phone gets that much push behind it, third-party development for lives forever.

We see that again today, with the release of Cannibal Open Touch recovery for the Optimus S. Everything you like about the others is there, plus support for both Froyo and Gingerbread ROM flashing, touch-screen navigation buttons, even custom themeing is on board. Of course it is fully open source and the code is posted at bitbucket.

Samsung confirms 20nm and 14nm Exynos chipsets on 2013

You don’t get to be in Samsung’s shoes today without putting in some serious investments.

Hence, the Koreans have just announced that they will be spending about $1.9 billion to build a factory that will produce their 20nm and 14nm-based Exynos chips by next year. This marks a significant improvement from the 32nm-based processor of the Exynos Quad 4 processor, which is now powering the international version of Samsung Galaxy S3.

Samsung Electronics’ System LSI Business president Stephen Woo said that the construction of its new System LSI fabrication line is an important step to “responding to the demand of the global IT industry” and to support Samsung’s customers’ requirements.
The mouthwatering prospect of seeing 20nm and 14nm-based SoCs on mobile devices as early as next year will definitely be welcomed by those who long for that perfect mixture of ultra-high performance and power efficiency. We might as well start the rumor mills for Samsung Galaxy S4 now (just kidding).

To the best of our knowledge, none of Samsung’s biggest competitors are releasing anything close to Samsung’s ambitious plans — at least in the context of mobile processors. Qualcomm, for instance, will be focusing on releasing the quad-core S4 Krait processor, which is built on 28nm process, by the end of the year. It’s still unclear what Qualcomm’s plans are for 2013. NVIDIA, meanwhile, is still caught up in its effort to release an updated Tegra 3 processor with built-in LTE in Q3 2012 – and it may only start releasing 28nm-based processor in the following year.

We’re sure that SoC manufacturers will take note of Samsung’s plans and share with the rest of the world their updated roadmaps soon. The mobile chipset market is huge, and according to research firm Garnet, is expected to grow more than 20% between 2011 and 2016 to $59.4 billion.

Is it too early to start dreaming about Samsung Galaxy S4 and its potential specs?

Need for Speed: Most Wanted 2012 released October 30

EA’s Need for Speed is, by far, the most popular PC racing video game franchise of the past decade or so. But the Android versions of the series have either been released a bit too late or they simply haven’t been as good as the big screen titles.

That might well change with the latest NFS installment, Most Wanted (2012 version), which has just been confirmed as hitting every gaming platform possible, including Android, at the same time. The launch will happen on October 30 and will see the fresh new racing game made available on Android, as well as PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and iOS.

The details on the game’s storyline, graphics, and gameplay are scarce at best, and, for the time being, we only have a short trailer showing off how will the game look on large screens. On the other hand, we can safely assume that the Android version of the new Most Wanted will come with pretty much the same spectacular graphics as on all other platforms, with smooth controls and a basic, but engaging plot.

As far as pricing goes, we can’t tell you anything the least bit official, but we would expect the new game to go for at least as much as Need For Speed Hot Pursuit, currently available in Google Play for $4.99.
